Tom Brady vs the Steelers Sunday Dec. 16, Heinz Field, Pittsburgh PA. (via http://www.steelers.com)
December 17, 2018 — I swear as the season continues each team uses different play adjustments to somehow come on top. When you don’t have a true team to root for (call me a bandwagoner, I just think I’m a sports fan), it’s fun to figure out how each team is going to come back or dominate completely. I mean don’t get me wrong, I have teams I don’t like (Pats, everyone in the Raiders division), but I have a better time watching all the games and be fully involved in the playoffs.
The Chargers for example, Phillip Rivers has got some ππππΒ this weekend going for two to win the game!
Steelers vs Pats
Last week Big Ben lost to the Raiders and this week he returns to defeat the GOAT? Incredible.Β Football is a slow game, but the outcome can change in an instant. One wrong play and the clock will wind down to zero before a team has the chance to make it up. Like Brady throwing an interception five yards shy of the end zone, poor guy ;).
Great to watch two vet QB’s go head to head. Tom Brady (279 yds, 1 TD, 1 Int) and Ben Roethlisberger (235 yds, 2 TD, 1 Int) were basically tied offensively the entire game. But in the end, Pittsburgh was running all over (and around) the Patriots.
Typically when Brady is down by a touchdown he comes back to score one and then some. But the Steelers defense was not messing around, blocking the entire offensive line within the last two minutes of the fourth, one attempted pass to Rob Gronkowsi the last pass for Julian Edelman.
Rams vs Eagles
I’m not gonna say I’m glad to see Nick Wentz back on the field but I AM GLAD ππΎ Eagles started off a little shaky in the first half. They only scored a couple field goals early on and after a nice deep ball to WR Alshon Jeffrey, Eagles were finally able to score seven. Rams offense was explosive as usual, running the ball through the Eagles gaps on defense. The teams were tied by half 13 all, and in the second half is when the game was far more interesting.
The Eagles defense was unstoppable; once they stopped the Rams near their own end zone at the start of the half it was obvious the pressure was affecting Jared Goff. The major turning point of the game was when Goff was stepped on, attempted to pass the ball and lost it, resulting in a TD from the Eagles. The score is now 30-13 Rams had yet to score since the half started.
After a TD late in the fourth by Todd Gurley III, his 17th of the season, the Rams were down by one touchdown to tie the game. But then, another turn for the worse for the Rams, WR JoJo Natson drops the ball on the punt return and the Eagles recover it with 2:51 left on the clock. With plenty of time on the clock Goff could make a comeback, but after a few long plays down the field Goff is unable to hit WR Josh Reynolds in the end zone.
The Eagles outplayed the Rams defensively in this game. They were able to hold Goff of his passing game and blocked the receivers in the back making it difficult to complete many down field plays.
Eagles take on the Texans next week, defense against defense, which will be a great match up. Rams will be playing the Cardinals which will be an easy win in the end for them. Definitely a mood booster for them after this loss.
